Horrorhound 2024 Recap

Well guys this is year 2 of our press coverage for Horrorhound Film Festival and 2024 did not disappointment. We reconnected with fellow podcasters and got to see another crop of great indie horror films. The two main standouts that we talked about tonight was "Sheryl" and "Compression", both great films as well as having a great team of filmmakers behind them. We also saw trailers for other great films, networked with other amazing filmmakers and the major highlight, aside from the Film Festival, was meeting the cast and creator of the horror film that changed our lives as horror fans as well as having a huge impact on our podcast, The Blair Witch Project with this being the 25th anniversary of the movie's release. Project Eerie Interview With Ricky Umberger

Goatman

The Goatman legend spans 3 states: Maryland, Kentucky and Texas. In Maryland, he stalks the woods of Prince George's County, possibly the result of a science experiment gone wrong. In Kentucky, he hides under a train trestle near Pope Lick Creek using hypnosis to lure trespassers to their deaths. In Texas, there are 2 reported legends, one in Fort Worth near a nature center and the other on Old Alton Bridge in Denton with the latter having very tragic, racist ties. Tonight we talk about all the legends and even a 2023 film (neither of us had seen by the time of this recording.) Is there one Goatman or many?

Evil Lurks Interview with Chris Shern

Tonight's episode is an interview with the co-writer and actor from the film "Evil Lurks," Chris Shern. Chris plays Harold in the film who through hypnosis is trying to help Kimberly (played by Amanda Winston) overcome her grief but assaults her while under possession & 15 years later Kimberly has to finally stop the Evil that still Lurks before all hell literally breaks loose. Chris shares with us what the process was like shooting the film, where the concept originated & what other projects he has in the works. "Evil Lurks" is currently streaming on Tubi.

The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster

A modern re-telling of Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein," Bomani Story's directorial debut, "The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster" tells the tragic story of Vicaria and her view of death as a disease as she is overcome with the grief of losing her brother due to gang/drug violence. The LaLaurie Mansion

Gypsy Rose Blanchard

In 2015 a small town in Missouri was rocked by an unspeakable crime: a loving mother found brutally murdered and her disabled teen daughter missing. After an arrest in Wisconsin, the truth of the story came to light. The disabled teen daughter was not a teenager nor disabled and the mother was not loving at all. The Haunting in Connecticut

Another real life true story meets Hollywood, tonight we discuss "The Haunting of Connecticut." The 2009 film fictionalizes the real life 1986 story of the Snedeker Family. After moving into a former funeral home in Connecticut to be closer to the hospital for their older son's cancer treatments, the Snedekers immediately started having horrifying paranormal experiences. They finally got Ed & Lorraine Warren involved and after an exorcism, the experiences stopped. The movie version takes on a slightly different version with seances, necromancy and dead bodies in the walls. Listen in tonight as we compare and contrast the real story to its movie counterpart.

The Devil's Tramping Ground

It's A Wonderful Knife

Even though we're into January, this episode is a fan suggestion that we couldn't pass up. Tonight we review "It's A Wonderful Knife," a horror spin on the 1946 classic "It's a Wonderful Life." Starring Justin Long, Jane Widdop, Joel McHale and Katherine Isabelle, the movie centers around Winnie who within a year has lost her best friend on Christmas Eve to a psychotic killer that she later murders. When she wishes she never existed, she is transported to a parallel universe where the maniac is back and with the help of the town outcast, she must defeat him again and return to her own reality. As always, there are spoilers, so stream on Shudder if you haven't seen it yet, then enjoy the episode!
