Christmas Evil

Xmas True Crime

The Disappearance of Paige Renkoski

Paige Renkoski at age 30 went missing May of 1990 after her car was found abandoned on the side of a highway in Michigan. Her missing cold case is one of the longest running in Michigan history. The case was declared a homicide even though no body has been found. Even though there have been some leads and even sightings, police have not gotten any closer to solving her case. Paige's mother passed away in 2017 (a dual memorial service held for both of them early 2018) so her sister carries on advocacy regarding her disappearance. Pennsylvania Dutch Magic

Tonight's episode is about a mythical practice dating back over 300 years that made its way to America thru European, namely German, immigration: that practice is called Pennsylvania Dutch Magic or Braucherei (pronounced "BROY-ker-eye.") It is a Christian folk practice that includes a range of healing rituals used primarily for treating ailments in humans, livestock, and crops, as well as securing physical and spiritual protection. Although it became less visible in the 1920s, Dutch Magic has more recently inspired new religious movements. A folk magic episode just in time for Halloween!
